What is the OHSAA - Northeast District Athletic Board (NEDAB)?

The OHSAA member schools are divided geographically into six Districts. The Northeast District consists of 14 counties - Ashland, Ashtabula, Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull and Wayne. The purpose of the District Athletic Board is to represent the member schools and conduct sectional and district tournament contests.

At the January 19th board meeting, members discussed policies for upcoming tournaments. All tournament sites are to use the following guidelines for admission to contests.

Scouting High Schools - Limit two high schools scouts per school will be admitted without charge provided they have called ahead to the tournament site manager, providing the names of scouts.

College Scouts - No free admittance, must purchase ticket at gate

Officials - No free admittance with officials card, must purchase ticket at gate

Lopez Honored for Service

In conjunction with the Northeast District Athletic Board Meeting on January 19, 2012, the board honored Al Lopez for his 40 years of dedicated service to the Northeast District Board, the OHSAA and the member schools. Al was honored at a surprise dinner following the regularly scheduled meeting.

Past president Lynn Gotthardt presented him with a plaque commemorating his outstanding service and commitment to the Board. Members shared anecdotes and memories with Al including his mentorship of tournament managers, his dedication to athletics and his unheralded commitment to education.

OHSAA 2012 Softball Umpires Mechanics Clinics Announced

The OHSAA will sponsor three Softball Mechanics Clinics in 2012. These clinics, designed to help umpires improve their skills and attain their advancement goals, will emphasize plate and base mechanics. Staff will be from the OHSAA Softball Umpire Instructional Team and will include OHSAA softball observers. An OHSAA state rules meeting will also be available for registered clinic attendees only. Umpires attending will receive credit for their required state meeting and one local rules discussion meeting.

Winter Tournament Information

Northeast District Board members and tournament managers are preparing for Winter Tournaments. Winter Manager meetings have been planned for January. Details can be found under the Calendar of Events link.  Divisional breakdowns, regulations, tournament manager and site information, and results can be found in the Winter Sports menu. Information will be updated as it becomes available.

Changes, Changes, Changes, Changes

This is a new classification year for the OHSAA. The OHSAA has consequently reclassified a number of schools, and the NEDAB has realigned the Districts to reflect those changes.

Boys Basketball
Division – 1   We have gained 1 District, and we added Alliance as our 7th site.
Division – 2   Ashtabula Lakeside High School replaces Lakeland Community College.
Division – 3   No site changes.
Division – 4   No site changes.

Girls Basketball
Division – 1   Bedford replaces Warrensville Heights, Walsh College replaces Alliance, and we have added Elyria Catholic as our new 7th site.

Mr. Fred Vicarel Honored

Fred Vicarel was recently honored by the Northeast District Athletic Board at a retirement dinner. Mr. Vicarel was presented a plaque by NEDAB Board Member Rocco Nero on behalf of the OHSAA and the NEDAB. Mr. Vicarel served as Secretary of the Northeast District Official’s Committee from 1982 to 2011. Our sincere thanks and appreciation to Fred for his untiring efforts and work in the field of High School Sports Officiating. Mr. Vicarel's work with and his support of the Northeast District Athletic Board were commended. Mr.

19th Annual Northeast District Athletic Board Scholarship Banquet

Forty-one student athletes in the Northeast District will be honored at the 19th Annual Northeast District Athletic Board Scholarship Banquet. The awards banquet was held Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the Holiday Inn, Akron/Fairlawn. Recipients are from member schools of the Northeast District of the Ohio High School Athletic Association and are being awarded for their academic and athletic achievements.
